Marcia Malzahn's Biography

Marcia (Marci) was born in Nicaragua, Central America. She is the second of six children. In 1979 she had to leave her country with her family due to the revolution that took place to overthrow the Somoza dictatorship. Her family moved to the Dominican Republic and lived there for seven years and then moved to the United States in 1986.

When Marcia moved to Minnesota in 1986, she started her career in banking with Marquette Banks that continued for the next thirteen years. Her work experience includes six years in Cash Management, six years in Private Banking, and one and one half years in Retail Banking. Her last position was Branch Manager of Marquette Capital Bank downtown Minneapolis. In 1995, Marquette Bank was the first bank to offer Online Banking in the Twin Cities and Marcia became the first Online Banking Specialist.

In 1999, she moved to the Information Technology field and started working for Living Work Christian Center (LWCC), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. At LWCC, she held the positions of Y2K Project Manager, Director of IT, and the last three and one half years as Associate in charge of Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology reporting directly to the Senior Pastor. She also held the Board position of Corporate Assistant Secretary and managed a budget of $31.5MM and 28 employees.

In January, 2005, Marcia moved back to the banking field and started a bank where she is Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Tradition Capital Bank in Edina, MN. Marcia is in charge of overseeing Finance, Human Rresources, Information Technology and Operations. Marcia is also the Corporate Secretary of the bank’s Board. She holds an Associate of Arts degree from North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, MN and is currently enrolled at Bethel University to complete her B.A. in Business Management in June, 2011.

Marcia is active in the community. She was a member of Financial Women International for fifteen years until December, 2009. She held several board positions including President of the local group in 1996 and in 2006 and President of the District in 2008 and 2009. She is currently the Treasurer of The Darkness to Light Education Project, a new 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to provide leadership training to high school students.

Marcia was the recipient of several awards including:

  • 25 On The Rise award given by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in December, 2005

    Forty Under 40 award given by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal in May, 2006

    Virginia D.H. Furman award given by Financial Women International in September, 2006

    Top Women in Finance award from Finance and Commerce Newspaper in November, 2008

    Outstanding Women in Banking award from North Western Financial Review Magazine in November, 2009.

  • Marcia met her husband Tim in 1986 and they married in 1988. They have two children: Nicole and Patrick and live in Minnesota. Marcia enjoys spending time with her family, walking, jogging, singing, writing, and public speaking.
